I will share with you a list of 15 houseplants plants safe for cats, that are also nice to have indoors, so you can have one less thing to worry about if your cat does eat or ruin your plant.
Make sure that your houseplants are safe for your cats before you actually bring the plant home. Before you buy your plants, do your research to find out whether the plant is toxic to cats. You can google the plant, or go to the ASPCA website, which has an extensive list of plants that are toxic and non-toxic to cats and dogs.
Sometimes, cats like to eat the plants, or dig around in the soil of the plants. To keep your pets safe, the first step would be to buy plants that are not toxic if the cat ate them.
The second step, is to train your cat to stay away from the plant, so you can actually have a live plant in the house.
Alternatively, you can hang your plants. That way, the cat won’t reach them anyway.
But even if you hang it, do get a cat safe plant just in case.
1. Parlor Palm
Also called the Good Luck Palm, this plant is non-toxic to cats and dogs, and is a popular indoor plant. It is a low-maintenance plant, that is easy to grow, and thrives in low light. Parlor Palm does not require a lot of water either, so water sparingly.
2. Haworthia
Haworthias are beautiful pet-friendly plants, that are also easy to maintain. These hardy plants are native to hot and dry climates, so they don’t require a lot of water. Place in a bright spot or on a window pane, and water about once a week in the summer, and about once a month in the winter. There is a variety of species with different shapes and colors, all with luscious fleshy leaves that give this plant an attractive appearance as a houseplant.
3. Echeveria Elegans
Another beautiful succulent, an elegant one as the name suggests. Safe for cats, easy to care for, and so easy to propagate too. These cat-friendly plants have fleshy leaves that form a pretty rosette. Different varieties have different shades ranging from pale green to dusty rose. All Echeveria Species are nontoxic to cats.
4. Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)
Easy to care for, these common houseplants are generally nontoxic to cats. They make beautiful hanging plants, so you can keep it out of your pet’s reach. Because they can cause mild gastrointestinal irritation if ingested by the cat, it’s better to keep it hanged. Spider plants are easily propagated from little babies that the plant produces. You can get them from a friend’s plant, and they are so easy to grow and care for.
5. Cast Iron Plant (Aspidistra elatior)
Hardy, low-maintenance, non toxic to cats, Cast Iron plant makes a beautiful addition to any home with it’s nice green foliage. It is very easy to care for, and it tolerates neglect very well. Keep it away from direct sunlight though, and only water when the top inch of the soil is dry. If you’d like to add low-maintenance greenery that is also safe for your pet, this is the way to go.

6. Boston Fern
Another common houseplant, with attractive bright green leaves, Boston Fern is non-toxic to cats. Like the spider plant, this plant makes a beautiful hanging plant, so it’s ideal if you want to hang your plants away from your cat’s reach. Boston ferns require proper care to keep them alive, not that it’s difficult but they won’t thrive if you neglect to water them and leave them to dry out. 7. Peacock Plant (Calathea)
A delicate beautiful houseplant, with dark and pale green foliage contrasted with a beautiful purple pink on the underside. This tropical house plant is not just wonderful to look at, but it’s also cat safe.
Like the Boston Fern, the Peacock plant has particular care requirements to keep it happy. The soil needs to be consistently moist, so make sure you don’t let your plant dry out. To keep it green and beautiful you need to provide the right care to your Peacock plant and keep it in the right conditions.
8. Baby Rubber Plant (Peperomia obtusifolia)
This cat safe plant adds greenery to your space and is easy to care for. Keep this plant in a bright spot, but not in direct sunlight, and water about once a week in the summer, and less in winter, only when the soil is dry.
